IN JAMAICA WITH THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA ON TOUR


Overwhelming response to The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s tour to Jamaica...concerts received with huge standing ovations....everyone concerned so grateful to the National Youth Orchestra of Jamaica for arranging the trip in collaboration with the sponsors...amazing education work in so many inspiring situations.  Links to organisations, reviews, and ways to get involved to follow...............


Recently....Another successful run of ROMEO & JULIET in Helsinki....Back in the studio with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for recording....hugely successful performances at Symphony Hall, Birmingham and run of Onegin in Antwerp.....preparing for composition commission to be performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2013....Standing ovations for performances in Gothenburg for performances with the Orchestra of Gothenburg Opera following successful tour of Holland with Giselle and Dutch National Ballet...


Huge success for performances of Mixed Bill in Antwerp - Tchaikovsky, Pårt, Mozart Violin Concerto No 5 with Bart Vandenbogaerde and de Filharmonie.  Great reception for concerts with Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Rachel Weston - also on youtube where Benjamin sings with the orchestra....


Performances at the wonderful Teatro La Fenice in Venice well received, with an invitation to return, as were performances in Luxembourg and Antwerp which were greeted with standing ovations, performance in Antwerp in the presence of Princess Mathilde of Belgium, and another performance in the presence of Queen Paola of Belgium.  Benjamin presented to both and also to Princess Elisabeth and other dignitaries.


Benjamin recently heard performing on Radio 3 with the BBC Concert Orchestra, also during December and January performing Nutcracker in London and in concert at the Barbican....February sees concert performances with The Royal Philharmonic and a return to Belgium with Sleeping Beauty in Ghent, before heading off for concert performances in Finland with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.



Benjamin’s composition, arrangements and performances feature in new commercials for Audi, for ITV’s “Downton Abbey” and for corporate films for KPMG....see “Audio, Video and Composition



Benjamin recently working in Luxembourg with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg performing concert programmes of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov with pianist Vesselin Stanev...completed successful and well-received run of Roland Petit Mixed Bill at London Coliseum, including a guest appearance from Ivan Vasiliev.  Press and public respond very positively....also recently conducting Onegin in Antwerp, including benefit performance with Royal Ballet principals Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg.  Performances receive standing ovations, and Royal Flemish Philharmonic lauded for their wonderful playing.  Recently completed series of performances in Finland of Prokofiev/Cranko Romeo & Juliet.

Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Benjamin Pope and Royal Ballet of Flanders win Classical Music Award “Klassiek Centraal Gold Label” for performances of  Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake”


Plans for the coming seasons include invitations to return to Tokyo, concerts with Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra and a return to the Lahti Symphony in Finland, performances on Radio 3 with BBC Concert Orchestra, returns to English National Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, invitation to return to the Grand Theatre in Luxembourg, performances in Venice and Gothenburg, reconstructions of “lost” 19th Century ballet scores, following the success of the Fred Astaire evening at the Belfast Festival, a return of this popular programme...


Benjamin’s other recent projects include performances with Scottish Ballet in Ashley Page’s Cinderella (see reviews)...recently conducting at London Coliseum in performances of Wayne Eagling’s new Nutcracker....also in December working with the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester (also see reviews), and in Antwerp with Royal Ballet of Flanders.

Benjamin Pope: conductor, composer, arranger and musical director.     One of Europe’s foremost conductors for ballet, Benjamin has worked extensively with companies throughout the world including The Royal Ballet (both at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and on their international tours), New York CIty Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Staatsballett Berlin, Norwegian National Ballet, English National Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, Dutch National Ballet, and has received invitations from many more.  A long-time collaborator with Matthew Bourne, Benjamin has conducted many of his productions including the award-winning Swan Lake and has been Music Director for The Car Man, Edward Scissorhands, and Play Without Words, for which Benjamin directed Terry Davies’ jazz score from the piano in the UK and Los Angeles. Benjamin Pope is also known as Ben Pope.

Conducted by the excellent Benjamin Pope...under his baton the Orchestra of the Royal Opera house played beautifully and for that reason alone he made the cost of a ticket well worth the expense
